Program Overview

This Intensive Course Abroad is a 4-credit course in which students will explore leadership and followership from a global, professional, and personal perspective. It will highlight the culture and history of Prague and The Czech Republic to study leadership and its impact over the past century.  Students will pursue the application of various leadership theories and practices, and study and discuss ideas with faculty, peers, and guests, in conjunction with on-site activities including visits to various centers and companies, guided tours of various aspects of the country’s culture and history, and case studies and professional advisory challenges. It will also focus on the importance and understand of the role of followership in the achievement of goals, the balance of the two and approaches for applying newer perspectives of leadership.
 
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to or have had experience to:

  • Explain various theories and applications of leadership through authors and experts
  • Explore the role of followership in successful and impactful leadership
  • Relate content to the information discussed at various leadership centers or in sessions with leaders of prominent companies and universities, and make connections for personal goals in leadership development
  • Connect a volunteer activity applied to leadership development and growth in the local community
  • Apply learnings in problem solving activities through hands on case work and advisory with a local organization
  • Understand and appreciate the overall beauty of the country, its sites, food, drink, and general culture in the context of global awareness

Priority for this program will be given to qualified student athletes.

Please note that due to Professor's D'Angelo's schedule, she will have a limited amount of time for interviews (a required part of the application) after September 5. While interviews can still be completed after Sept 5 and before the Sept 30 deadline, priority will be given to students who complete their interviews by Sept 5. 

 

Academics

Course Requirements
Prior to departure, students will be required to complete various activities which may include viewing films, attending an introduction lecture and meeting, and completing online assignments.  Post return, students will be required to complete a reflective assignment and/or online.

Credit/Registration
Students will be registered for BUSN 350 for 4 credits as a part of their winter term. Students must leave space for these 4 credits in their credit load, or will otherwise be billed for exceeding the 20 credit term maximum. 

Pre-requisite: All undergraduate majors are welcome to apply for this program, including incoming freshmen, transfer students, online, international and athlete students. Previous participants also welcome to apply - readings and assignments will be selected for those who have prior experience to allow for advanced learnings.

More Information

*US citizens are not required to obtain a visa for entry in the Czech Republic. Other nationalities should verify visa requirement on the Czech embassy website.

A suggested flight itinerary will be provided. Students are responsible for booking their own flight.
