Program Overview

This is a 4-credit course in which students will explore business culture from a global, professional, and personal perspective. This course is run as a Global Classroom with the Spring Break in Hungary and Austria: Thinking (A)broad ICA. Students will begin in Prague, Czech Republic and the two classes will meet in Vienna, Austria to conclude the program. 

It will highlight the historical context and tradition of Vienna for both sections and Prague or Budapest for sections one and two, respectively.  The course will examine the economic and organizational environment, as well the importance of citizenship for a community’s success.  Students will draw on leadership styles, team roles, and prior experiences as they study and discuss ideas with faculty, peers, and guests, in conjunction with on-site activities including visits to various centers and companies, guided tours of various aspects of the country’s culture and history, case studies and professional advisory challenges, and service-learning activities. You will reflect on your learning; apply new ideas to current academic, professional and personal activities, and set goals for continuing to engage globally. Although the focus of the on-ground experiences will be Vienna, Prague and Budapest, the concepts we learn will be widely applicable to evaluation of other European economies & cultures.


Priority for this given to LeBow students, although all students are welcome to apply.

Students should be open to attending either the Prague or Budapest location. Preference will be given to those who are flexible with both options. Those with a location preference will be considered after students who are open to either. Students only need to submit one application, regardless of location preference.

Academics

Credit/Registration
Students will be registered for BUSN 350 for 4 credits as a part of their spring term. Students must leave space for these 4 credits in their credit load, or will otherwise be billed for exceeding the 20 credit term maximum.

Instructor: This program will be led by Dana D'Angelo (danad@drexel.edu), Clinical Professor in LeBow College of Business. In Vienna, Professor Chris Finnin will join the program from the Budapest location. 

Program Calendar

Students will need to depart the USA on March 18 to arrive on March 19. 
Students may extend their travel independently before or after program dates.

Arrival and Orientation

Presentation and discussion - the current economic and entrepreneurial environment after Czech history
Visit - local business to learn about challenges faced by marketers in selling local goods to foreign consumers

Day 3:
Guided tour of Prague
Service learning project and community impact

Day 4:
Virtual exchange discussion with Prague students and consulting project preparation
Traditional Czech lunch
Tour of the Prague Castle 

Day 5:
Visit – how local start-ups are engaging in the global environment and managing growth
Transfer to Vienna
Orientation 

Day 6:
Guided tour of Vienna
Visit – how Vienna supports global finance as the gateway to Eastern Europe
Tour of the Vienna Opera House

Day 7:
Consulting project presentations with client discussions and company visit
Farewell lunch
Reflective debrief and post-program research project preparation
 

Program Fee - $ 2,200

*All payments are non-refundable unless declined admission or program cancels for unforeseen reasons.

ICA Financial Aid: Students may request an Adjusted Cost of Attendance by submitting the ICA program fee and estimated out of pocket expenses listed above to Drexel Central (via askdrexel). Doing so could make students’ eligible for additional financial aid.  Students may also be eligible to apply for Drexel's ICA Scholarships.

More Information

  • Visa: US Citizens are not required to have a visa for this program. Other nationalities should check visa requirements on the Czech and Austrian Embassy websites.
  • A recommended flight itinerary will be provided. Students are responsible for booking their own airfare.
