The Leeds Exchange program is open to all Drexel majors with priority given to Civil and Architectural Engineering students. Students may choose from a wide range of subjects at Leeds, however their Business courses are not available to exchange students. Leeds is a lively city, rich in culture and heritage with lots to explore. More than 750,000 people live within the city boundaries and over 100,000 people come to work in the city centre every day. Leeds is located approximately 2 ½ hours from London and 1 hour from Manchester. The Leeds Exchange program completely immerses Drexel students into British education and culture as you take classes with the local British and international students.

The University of Leeds is a semester based school. Students should prepare to make adjustments and be flexible in fitting this program into their Drexel schedule. Due to the need for cycle and program changes, the study abroad office urges you to begin planning 12-18 months in advance.
* Fall: Mid September - Mid January
* Spring: Early February - End May
The University of Leeds will allow for Drexel students depart after the conclusion of classes before Christmas and then have the Study Abroad Office proctor their Fall final exams back at Drexel during the Winter term. This will allow Drexel students to begin the Winter term on time and stay on track with their Drexel education. The University of Leeds will charge Drexel students taking advantage of this option a 50 pound, roughly $100, fee in order to arrange for remote exams.
Students with spring/summer class should plan to participate in the program at Leeds during the Spring semester, leaving their Fall/Winter co-op early. Students would then have a break before returning to Drexel in June for summer term classes. During this month students could return to their co-op, travel, or return to the United States.
Leeds has some suggestions as to how to choose your modules (what we call courses). Please read this before you make your module selections. You will need to peruse the Leeds Course Catalog to see if the modules are assessed by exam or by project. Keep in mind that Leeds will not submit official academic transcripts of your studies to the Drexel Study Abroad Office until the summer following your study abroad expereince.
All classes at the University of Leeds are taught in English, thus there is no foreign language requirement.
University of Leeds - Course Equivalents.xls Students will need to get equivalents approved by the appropriate department for each course they plan to take abroad. For example, if you want to take a sociology course at Leeds for Drexel credit, its equivalent must be pre-approved by the Sociology Department at Drexel. Please note: the course equivalency spreadsheet is to be used only as a guide and is in no way a guarantee that courses approved in the past will be approved in the future.
The University of Leeds, located in Leeds, England, came into being in 1904 but its origins go back to the nineteenth century with the founding, first, of the Leeds School of Medicine in 1831 and then the Yorkshire College of Science in 1874. Over 32,000 students are attached to 700 different first-degree programs and 474 postgraduate degree programs.
Readers of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler magazine voted Leeds the number one city in the UK in 2003, above more well known locations such as London and Edinburgh. It was also named as the top city to visit in 2004 by the Good Britain Guide, and praised for a 'good optimistic feel'. Leeds has just been voted as one of the top three places to shop in the UK by numerous independent surveys, and offers a huge range of shops and stores to suit all tastes. The Lonely Planet guide recently called it 'the Knightsbridge of the North.'
University of Leeds residences are guaranteed to all students who apply for accommodation online before the following deadlines: September Arrival - July 1st
"The people in Leeds are by far some of the happiest and friendliest people I've ever met, and their attitude and perspective has surely rubbed off on me. The city itself is so lively, and has a fantastic nightlife..... [Studying abroad] has honestly changed me as a person - even in the short amount of time I've been here. Each day brings a new adventure, and a new lesson. I know that when I get back to Philly I'll try to look at it the same way and hopefully be able to open the eyes of others to the opportunities that each day brings."
- Michelle Martucci, Civil Engineering Junior, Studying Abroad Fall 2011
