Drexel in Italy: Global Coaching Seminar

Program Overview

The Drexel in Italy Global Coaching Seminar program is designed specifically for students in the MS in Sport Coaching Leadership program to provide students with a focused, hands-on experience in athlete interaction and engagement, practice planning, recruiting and sport for development. Focusing on the Italian approach to athlete development and coaching, students will travel to Rome, Italy meeting with local coaching professionals and engaging in discussion and analysis of the European approach to coaching. This intensive one week program will push students to identify new coaching methods, philosophies and approaches to sport, to understand Italy's unique sporting culture and to begin to conceptualize how American sport organizations can develop relationships with international sport organizations.


Academics

Graduate students: Students participating in the Drexel Grad in Italy program must enroll in SCL 619 : Global Coaching Seminar for 6 credits in the Summer 2018 term. The program is a required component of the MS in Sport Coaching Leadership Program, but may be open to select students from other programs. Students participating in the course will be required to complete readings ahead of the trip and online discussion posts during the trip as a part of this intensive course in Italy. A trip portfolio and two research papers completed after the time abroad will also be required.  Graduate students will enroll and pay for 6 credits for the course. 

Undergraduate students: 
Students participating in the Drexel Grad in Italy program must enroll in EDUC T480-900 for 3 credits in the Summer 2018 term. Students participating in the course will be required to complete readings ahead of the trip and online discussion posts during the trip as a part of this intensive course in Italy. A trip portfolio and two research papers completed after the time abroad will also be required. The 3 credits for the course are not optional.

Included in Program Fee (Graduate and Undergraduate:

  • 7 nights accommodation (shared twin or triple rooms)
  • 7 Breakfasts

  • Ground transportation for all visits as listed in itinerary
  • All Academic and Cultural Site Visits as listed in the itinerary

Not Included in Program Fee:

  • Round-trip air fare to Rome from student's departure city
  • Some meals ($150)
  • Passport and Required Visa fees* ($145 for those in need of a passport)
  • Estimated personal expenses ($200)
