Fall Break in Scotland:
Global Sustainable Leadership

Program Overview

Thinking (A)broad: Global Sustainable Leadership is a 4-credit business elective offered during the fall term 2021 that includes the Intensive Course Abroad to Scotland and fall term hybrid coursework. Students will work with the University of Strathclyde on research topics and presentations in a debate style colloquium comparing US and UK policies surrounding sustainability and leadership.  Results will be presented to a panel for discussion with local professionals and researchers at the university.  Additional site visits to organizations for conversations and information on leadership and sustainability practices will be included.  Students will also have time built in for cultural visits that support and connect with the themes of leadership and global sustainability.  Participants will conclude with a a personal reflection and career plan to integrate and support their learnings and ideas.

  • Study various leadership theories related to personal and intercultural development
  • Utilize team roles based on professional development tools and theoretical application
  • Conduct a team-based research project on Leadership and Sustainability
  • Present the research project to a panel of advisors and lead a discussion with peers
  • Visit and interact with faculty and professionals in the field in the UK
  • Discuss global cases and other relevant materials
  • Reflect and set personal goals for ongoing development in sustainability and leadership


Credit/Registration: This combined on-campus/abroad course is BUSN T380 for 4 credits and serves as a business elective for Fall Term 2021. Students will be enrolled upon acceptance of their application.

Fall On-Campus Class Schedule: Hybrid (3 Wednesday evenings)

Pre-requisite: Open to all majors with preference given to students who were enrolled Global Classroom sections of BUSN 101 and BUSN 102, taught by Professors Jodi Cataline and Dana D’Angelo in prior academic years.

*Students will have to depart on August 31 to arrive in Scotland on Sept 1. Students who extend travel independently beyond program dates are fully responsible for those arrangements.

Due May 1, 2021 - $500 Advance Payment + $25 application fee
Due July 1, 2021 - $900 Final Payment
All payments are non-refundable unless declined admission or program cancels for unforeseen reasons.

*This program fee has been subsidized by contributions from LeBow College of Business.

  • Visa: US citizens are not required to obtain a visa for entry to the UK. Other nationalities must confirm on the UK Embassy website whether a visa is required for entry.
