Drexel Fall Break in Italy: Architecture & Interiors Intensive Venice (Outgoing Program)
- Locations: Venice, Italy; Vicenza, Italy
- Program Terms: Fall
- Restrictions: Drexel applicants only
The City of Venice; crowded, wet, and typically visited for no more than 48 hours on a commercially driven tour of the top three cities of Italy (including Rome & Florence). This intensive study tour will provide students with the opportunity to explore the dynamic blend of medieval, renaissance, baroque and modern architecture and urban design. The development and somewhat miraculous survival of Venice, built on long submerged sandbars in the large lagoon on the northwestern edge of the Adriatic, will be investigated and understood through the understanding of construction and restoration technology.
Credit/Registration: Students will be registered for ARCH 347 / INTR T580 Intensive Architectural Studies for 3 credits during the summer term. The course satisfies the History/Theory in the architectural curriculum and humanities for other majors. Students must leave room for the 3 credits in their credit load as the credits are not optional.
Pre-requisites: ARCH 141, 142 & 143 or ARTH 101, 102 & 103 or by permission of the Instructors
Pre-Travel Required Lectures: 8 required summer term class sessions will be held on campus to learn about the history, art and architecture of Venice. Students will be assigned research topics and will be required to report on their research on site in Italy.
