Program Overview

The University of Aberdeen is a public research university in Aberdeen, Scotland. Founded in 1495, it is Scotland’s third oldest university and the fifth oldest university in the English-speaking world. The university is ranked in the top 200 in the world, and top 30 in the United Kingdom, according to the Times Higher Education rankings. University of Aberdeen is part of the “Four Ancients” in Scotland, which is the Scottish equivalent of the Ivy League.
 
Aberdeen is a vibrant, creative and ambitious city, known for its coastal historic charm and cosmopolitan community. Located on the North East Coast of Scotland, Aberdeen is in the perfect location for mixing colorful city life with exploring miles of surrounding countryside. The city itself has a dynamic and friendly community, and it is known not only for being the Cultural Centre of the North East of Scotland, but also Scotland's Safest University City, the Happiest City to Live in the UK and even one of Scotland's Sunniest Cities.

  • 2.5 minimum GPA
  • Open to students in their 3rd, 4th, and 5th semesters

Academics

Course Availability

Use the Course Catalog to look for course descriptions.  Please search for coursework offered at the University of Aberdeen. Please also note that you will only be able to enroll in undergraduate (levels one through four) or graduate (level five) law courses at Aberdeen. You can choose to enroll in undergraduate or graduate courses, but you cannot enroll in a mix of graduate and undergraduate law courses.

Kline School of Law students must take a full-time load at the University of Aberdeen, which is a minimum of 46 UK credits per semester. A standard course load is 60 UK credits, and students can take up to 75 UK credits, provided they obtain permission from the Go Abroad Tutor at the University of Aberdeen. Students must be sure that they are taking the equivalent of at least 9 Kline credits. Students will be billed by Drexel for 9 Kline School of Law credits, and adjustments will be made to the bill after the drop/add period of the University of Aberdeen. 
 
Course Equivalencies
All courses for Kline students have been pre-approved and are available here.  Please note that the list of pre-approved courses includes classes at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. You can choose either, but you cannot enroll in a mix of graduate and undergraduate law courses. To read the course descriptions please refer to the course catalog.

Grading
Students are taught and graded by faculty at the University of Aberdeen. Grades are noted as "CR/NCR" on their Kline School of Law transcript and will NOT affect their GPA. To receive CR, students must earn a D at the University of Aberdeen. Students must be a full-time student at the University of Aberdeen while also taking the equivalent of no fewer than 9 Kline credits.

Housing

Students will will have the option to live in University of Aberdeen housing or in off-site apartments.  Students are responsible for the cost of housing.

Visa

If you are a US citizen you do not need a visa to go to the UK.
If you are not a US citizen please check with the UK embassy to see if you need a visa.

Tuition & Financial Aid
This is a Drexel sponsored program, thus you will be billed your regular Kline School of Law per credit tuition and receive the appropriate percentage of financial aid.  Please note: you will initially be billed for 9 Kline credits but your final bill will be adjusted after the University of Aberdeen’s drop/add period to reflect actual credits taken. 
Students may also want to submit a revised budget to the Associate Director of Financial Aid, Mary deRivera, to see if additional funding may be available.

Scholarships
Those interested in seeking additional funding should review Scholarship & Funding Opportunities. Remember that scholarship deadlines may be much earlier than study abroad deadlines, so plan accordingly.
