A proper Londoner 01/11/2014 at 7:30 AM EDT

I can't believe I've been in London for a week now, this city already feels like home. The staff at FIE and LCF have done an excellent job at getting us adjusted. During orientation we were allowed to see the backstreets of London, had lectures how to be a local and learned all about social queues of the UK. Culturally the US and the UK are not as similar as many people would think. There is a history in the UK that is so prevalent in their society today. Living here only a week, my diction had already changed. I picked up words such a proper and bloody. Each night we have been exploring London and this weekend we are going to the famous markets. All of these little things are definitely making me a Londoner. I can't wait to see where I am 10 weeks from now because this first week has made me feel like home.

Where the old meets the new 01/07/2014 at 1:02 PM EDT

London is like watching a play rehearsal of a Grammy winning show. It is raw, exciting and you don't want to miss a minute of it. The people, the fashion and the culture are all unique. Everyone does what they want and says what they want and says with they want with out the judgement of bystanders. This is one of the first things they mention at London College of Fashion (LCF) orientation. However, i did not need a native to tell me that. During orientation I enjoy people watching all the other students and pedestrians. Everyone is extremely sharp in their dress at all times. But each person is extremely different in their ways. Even the most out their people still look put together. As a fashion student I totally understand why London is a trendsetting city. Contrarily, the back drop to all of this differentness is breathtaking buildings. Each corner you turn in more breathtaking than the next. The craftsmanship to each and every building is amazing. There have been many times I have stopped in my tracks just to look up at the intricate crown molding and the delicate iron fences. Although it is obvious the British do not appreciate me stopping in the middle of the way with their not so smug comments. I can not contain myself. The gorgeous contrast of the city is inspiring as an artist. This is where the old meets the new, which is always keeping things interesting.
