Arriving in London! 09/02/2011 at 12:06 PM EDT

I'm finally in London! After all of the waiting and anticipation, I am finally here and starting to get settled in. The past two days have been filled with learning a lot of new information and getting lost. I’ve spent yesterday and today gathering necessary items (i.e. groceries, school books, school supplies, a phone, etc) and just trying to learn the area along the way!
Before I came here, I was expecting to be living in a tiny little room with a small amount of space for storage so I made sure not to over pack. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my room at 12 Manson Place. It is rather large and we only have 3 people living in a room that is designed for 4. We have our own bathroom and we each have our own decently sized closet. I packed one suitcase, a back pack, and a purse and now I realized that I definitely could have brought a little more! However, the good thing about London is that if there is anything I need there are many stores within walking distance of our flat! Right up the road is a TK Maxx, which is just like a TJ Maxx in America so I can buy clothes for cheaper prices.
One of my biggest concerns about studying abroad is making sure I don’t run out of money. Since the pound is currently worth approximately $1.60, I’m going to do my very best to be the best bargain shopper and make the most out of my money! We bought our groceries from the grocery store called Waitrose around the corner which has good quality food but I’ve been told that it is a little more on the expensive side. I only bought a few things and I made sure to only buy the things that were on sale so I was pleased with the prices. I also managed to get a phone that was only £2.95! My plan was £20 and I get unlimited text messages and 80 minutes to all people in the UK. All in all, I’m pretty satisfied with the deals I got today!
South Kensington is absolutely gorgeous and the British people that I have encountered have been very pleasant and eager to offer suggestions and ideas for what we should do for entertainment. Tomorrow we have the entire day off so some of the Drexel kids and I are going to head to the Burough Market and explore another beautiful part of this city!
